Fixing Your TV Cable Connection

Adjusting the Channel to Receive the Input Signal with a Remote

For seniors less familiar with the latest technology, cable TV issues can become regular irritatants. Here's what you need to know before calling your cable provider.

Here are a few tips that might resolve your cable problem with just a couple of quick channel changes.

One of the most common reasons people call their cable television provider is because they believe they are no longer accessing their cable programming. Very likely the reason this has happened is because someone has inadvertently changed the television from the channel it should be set on to allow cable programming to come through.

This problem frequently occurs by accidentally picking up the wrong remote control, i.e., selecting the remote control that came with the television set itself and not the remote control provided by the cable company or the one that the customer may have programmed specifically for their cable viewing. The simple act of inputing a channel on the wrong remote can cause you to be unable to access your cable TV programming.

This also happens when channels are being changed to allow a DVD or other equipment to be used, and the channel is not changed back once the use of the other equipment is over.

If either of these circumstances is the problem, simply getting the television back on the proper channel will resolve the issue. You will need to either physically go to your television and enter the specific channel it should be on for your cable’s reception, or you should input that channel into the remote control that came with your television set. For many cable providers that channel number is 3, for others it is 4, but check with your specific provider to find out what that channel should be and write it down.

It is a good habit to put the remote that came with your television set away in a safe place (definitely out of hand's reach) so that you will not mistakenly pick it up and cause the problem again.

Contact your cable company if you are encountering problems of another nature with your service. A part of the price you pay is for customer support service.
